The phrase “high risk, high reward” exists for a reason. Perhaps not true in all instances, but in my experience, I have found it quite true.
It is a risk to work for a company, like a start-up, that is ‘traditionally’ not as stable – but the monetary reward and general growth is high if it is successful.
It is a risk to tell your friend you have feelings for them – but the sweet memories that could result from spending beautiful time together as ‘more than friends’ could be better than you imagined.
It is a risk to do something you have never done before or have a really difficult conversation – but the reward could be that you are much better off than you were when you started.
It is so easy to stay in stable situations – jobs, relationships, homes, etc…and to let stability drive decision making. There is definitely a time and a place for that, but there is also time and place for the opposite.
For embracing change, novelty, and THE UNKNOWN.
Which, no matter how you slice it and who you are, everyone gets even a little stressed about the unknown.
And when we can leave room for that bit of stress so it can co-exist with the momentum of just DOING THE DAMN THING, then we are really powerful. Resilient. Tough.
And, perhaps most importantly, we have developed TRUST. Even if it feels like a small amount, we’ve developed morsels of trust in ourselves that we CAN navigate uncertainty. And that we WILL be okay.
Is is not about erasing doubt or eliminating stress about the unknown – it is about leaving the space for the doubt to exist but making sure that space is smaller that the space that says “let’s fucking GO FOR IT.”
cheers to fucking GOING for it.
